Internships at HAVEN are adapted to fit your specific program’s needs.  Because HAVEN Interns provide a broad range of skills and experiences essential to the organization’s day-to-day operations, we work with students to find the best fit for them.  Below are a few of the opportunities currently offered, but please contact the Volunteer & Outreach Coordinator if you are interested in an internship and do not see your area of study listed.  Thank you for your interest!

Education/Community Outreach Intern:
Interns will work on educational projects that will be presented to the community.  They will participate in special events and trainings, organizational tasks and special tasks as needed.  Tasks may include but are not limited to: creating power points for outreach events, helping with signage and flyer creating/distribution, assisting in training when needed.

Programs accepted: (including but not limited to) Mass Communications, Education, Library Science, Women's Studies, Psychology, and Sociology.

Direct Service Intern:

Interns will have the opportunity to be advocates for HAVEN clients.  These interns will work with the Direct Service Supervisor and perform the following duties: meeting with clients, providing crisis counseling, helping clients fill out Protection from Abuse orders (PFAs), attending court hearings, and providing support to clients as well as taking on-call crisis hotline shifts on a rotating schedule.

Programs Accepted: (including but not limited to) Social Work, Psychology, Sociology, Criminal Justice, and Anthropology.

Public Relations Intern:

Interns will have the opportunity to work with local media outlets including but not limited to local newspaper, magazine, social media, and radio stations to promote our organization in a positive and professional manner. They will also assist in brainstorming creative ways to promote HAVEN to the community as well as contribute to the quarterly newsletter.

Programs Accepted: (including but not limited to) Business, Business Administration, Mass Communications, Journalism, Graphic Design, and Women's Studies.

Other internship opportunity may be available.  Just ask!

The time commitment for each internship opportunity varies.  All interns must complete HAVEN’s full domestic violence and sexual assault training before their internship begins, will be subject to background checks, and must submit clearances (provided by HAVEN).  They will have the opportunity to work in our office or as an on-call volunteer for evening and weekend emergency advocacy.
