This year’s Hoofprints for HAVEN trail ride took place in the beautiful Pennsylvania Grand Canyon and was a huge success! Twenty horse-and-rider teams tackled the rugged 8-mile trail, enjoying three hours of stunning scenery, challenging terrain, and great company. Some participants camped overnight with their horses, while others joined just for the day.

The event has become a beloved tradition, with many returning participants and new faces joining in for the first time. Riders shared laughs, formed friendships, and made memories that will last long after the ride ended.

After raffles, a silent auction, and lunch, everyone celebrated a fantastic day on the trails and a generous total raised for HAVEN’s work supporting survivors. Planning is already underway for the fifth annual trail ride next year, and we can’t wait to see everyone back again!

A huge thanks to our generous monetary sponsors - Morris Run American Legion, Blossburg VFW, Mansfield VFW, Matt Neal Contracting, Wellsboro Electric, and Mansfield Dunkin’ Donuts - as well as our raffle donors: Triple Crown Nutrition, Strohecker Vision Care, and Chicks Discount Saddlery. Your support helped make this year’s event possible!

How long will the trail last? The trail is anticipated to take about 2.5 hours. However; depending on group size, the amount of breaks taken and the general pace of each group (not gaited, gaited and mixed groups) the duration could be longer or shorter.

Are there steep inclines or declines? Yes, the trail begins with a series of steep inclines and ends with a series of steep declines. Depending on the amount of rainfall during the season, certain areas of the trail may become muddy.

What is the footing like? The trail is comprised of several different types of footing. In addition to grassy, level areas - there are parts that are rocky, uneven footing. There is a stretch that is gravel road. Depending on the amount of rainfall during the season, certain areas of the trail may become muddy.

Will my horse need shoes? Shoes are recommended for our event, however they are not a requirement. We have had several barefoot riders in the past, but we prefer unsure riders to err on the side of caution and use shoes.

Is this trail safe for beginners? We do not recommend this trail for beginners.

Are kids allowed? Yes! We love to see kiddos join in the fun. We have had handy riders as young as 6 years old accompany us in years past. NOTE: Youth riders MUST be accompanied by an adult, wear a helmet, AND be in control of their own horse. We do not recommend this trail for beginners.

What are the horse camping accommodations? Primitive horse sites are available onsite through CAMP at OCWT. You can visit www.olecoveredwagon.com/camping for rates and additional info.

Can I bring an out-of-shape horse? The trail is not recommended for out-of-shape equines.

What if I pre-register but my circumstances change and I can’t attend?
