How long will the trail last? The trail is anticipated to take about 2.5 hours. However; depending on group size, the amount of breaks taken and the general pace of each group (not gaited, gaited and mixed groups) the duration could be longer or shorter.
Are there steep inclines or declines? Yes, the trail begins with a series of steep inclines and ends with a series of steep declines. Depending on the amount of rainfall during the season, certain areas of the trail may become muddy.
What is the footing like? The trail is comprised of several different types of footing. In addition to grassy, level areas - there are parts that are rocky, uneven footing. There is a stretch that is gravel road. Depending on the amount of rainfall during the season, certain areas of the trail may become muddy.
Will my horse need shoes? Shoes are recommended for our event, however they are not a requirement. We have had several barefoot riders in the past, but we prefer unsure riders to err on the side of caution and use shoes.
Is this trail safe for beginners? We do not recommend this trail for beginners.
Are kids allowed? Yes! We love to see kiddos join in the fun. We have had handy riders as young as 6 years old accompany us in years past. NOTE: Youth riders MUST be accompanied by an adult, wear a helmet, AND be in control of their own horse. We do not recommend this trail for beginners.
What are the horse camping accommodations? Primitive horse sites are available onsite through CAMP at OCWT. You can visit www.olecoveredwagon.com/camping for rates and additional info.
Can I bring an out-of-shape horse? The trail is not recommended for out-of-shape equines.
What if I pre-register but my circumstances change and I can’t attend? HFH is an annual fundraiser that directly supports HAVEN of Tioga County, a nonprofit providing free and confidential services to survivors of domestic violence and sexual assault in Tioga County, PA. Please note that registration fees are non-refundable. If you're unable to attend, you’re welcome to transfer your registration to a friend or family member. If no transfer is made, your registration will be considered a donation to HAVEN and will still support our mission to serve local survivors. If you registered at the Hope level, we’re happy to hold your t-shirt for pickup or arrange to mail it to you after the event.
